Helping Hurricane Rita victims
After Hurricane Rita ravaged the Texas Gulf Coast, we were busy for a few days refueling the diesel generators to keep cell phone communications operating. We kept the generators running for the cell towers throughout East Texas until electric power was restored.
Cell phones are often the only form of communications available after a hurricane, and keeping communications open is crucial to the rescue and salvage efforts. While most of the assistance efforts focused on helping people and families directly, what we discovered is that the Police, EMT's, FEMA, and many other emergency personnel depend on cell phone technology to communicate and coordinate their efforts. Keeping the cell towers powered up was vitally important!
Keeping communication technology up & running was a welcome task for the Digital Evangelist, and we thank God for the opportunity to serve the Kingdom of God by serving those in need.
