This huge quarter-page ad was published in our local small-town paper this week. It is supposedly a message from God Himself. Is it any wonder that people are offended by Fundamentalist Evangelicals?
I am appalled that someone would be so bold as to put these words in God’s mouth! Honestly, I choose #1, because it really IS the only choice - there is no #2.
Furthermore, I choose ‘Jesus & Heaven’ here and now - not Jesus now and Heaven someday in the sweet by-and-by. Maybe that is really choice #3?
This billboard greets everyone driving north on TX249 in Tomball, TX. The advertiser obviously believes that God gave man a list of rules that would produce a happy life when they are obeyed. Apparently, to this person, there is no love relationship between God and Man except one of Master/Slave.
Sadly, the person who erected this sign obviously does not know the true nature of God. Like most religious people, their life is about DOING instead of BEING. Religion is always hard work, diligently striving to do the “Thou Shalt’s” and resisting temptations to do the “Thou Shalt Not’s.” With well-intentioned, but misguided Christians parading this kind of religious propaganda in public, is it any wonder most Western Christians have a wrong concept about God?
